Apple is paving the way for the latest gadgets and technologies, whether itís from their desktop and laptop computers, or their latest iPhone, Apple has laid the technology foundation. Apple’s iPhone has completely changed the game when it comes to cell phones; you can tell that simply taking a quick look at an iPhone. Before iPhone became the most popular selling phone, the Motorola RAZR was on top but then Apple put the RAZR to shame when it released their 2G iPhone. Not to long after the 2G iPhone was released, that the 3G iPhone made its first appearance and then the iPhone 3GS. What are the differences the three different iPhones?
Let us first start by talking about the features and specifications of the 2G iPhone. The screen size on the 2G iPhone is exactly 3.5 inches, which sets the foundation for the crisp 480×320 screen resolution. The back of the iPhone has an extremely smooth metal finish with a black strip down towards the bottom. The front of the phone obviously has the screen, but also has a shiny metal strip that travels around the outside of the screen. The entire phone is 4.5 inches tall, 2.4 inches across and 0.46 inches thick, combining together to make the phone weigh 4.8 ounces. There is a 2 megapixels camera on the iPhone 2G but it does not have video recording capabilities. The iPhone 2G also supports GSM, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities, couple that with all the other features and your still left with up to eight hours of talk time.
Once the iPhone 2G was released, Apple was already looking for ways to improve it, and so the iPhone 3G was born. Letís take a look at the features of the iPhone 3G so we can compare it between the iPhone 2G. The iPhone 3G also has a 3.5 inch screen, as well as a 480×320 screen resolution just like the iPhone 2G. The back of the iPhone 3G boasts a smooth piano finish in either white or black but still features the same shiny metal strip going around the front as the 2G iPhone. The iPhone 2G featured just regular buttons, while Apple wanted the 3G iPhone to have a more sturdier feel so it features metal buttons. The iPhone 3G is 4.5 inches tall and 2.4 inches across, just like the iPhone 2G with the difference being that the iPhone 3G is slightly thicker, being 0.48 inches thick. The iPhone 3G also weighs 4.7 ounces which is slightly less then its 2G predecessor. The camera on the 3G is almost exactly the same as the 2G, being 2 megapixels and still cannot support video recording. The 3G supports GSM, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi just like the 2G, but the real difference being that the 3G operates at 3G speeds which is significantly faster than the 2G. Whether you want to surf the web, download something from the Internet or watch some YouTube videos, the 3G is the phone to do it. The 3G however, does have a shorter battery-life, allowing for only 5 hours of talk time.
The iPhone 3GS basically the same thing as the 3G just with a few improvements. The iPhone 3GS has a 16 gigabyte model and then an even larger 32 gigabyte model to choose from. While the 2G and 3G have a 2 megapixel camera, the 3GS boasts a 3 megapixel camera as well as 30FPS video recording capabilities and the ability to edit the video right on your phone. The iPhone 3GS also has a finish that is resistant to oil and water, while the 2G and the 3G do not. The iPhone 3GS has the same dimensions as the iPhone 3G weighs 4.76 ounces. Lastly, the iPhone 3GS has about h hours of talk and data time if operating at 3G speeds and about 12 hours if operation on 2G speeds.
The iPhone is the next great thing in cell phones, boasting more features than any other type of cell phone. Whether it is the 2G, the 3G or the 3GS iPhone, they all have their own capabilities and it is up to you, based on what you need to make a decision on which one to buy. If you are the type of person that stays up to date with all the latest technologies and you want the latest and the greatest, then the iPhone 3GS is probably the best choice for you. If you are the type of person who likes new technology but is more on the conservative side, then the 2G or the 3G iPhone would probably be a better decision.
